Description : Erect undershrubs, up to 1.2 m tall; stem angled, hairy when young, glabrescent on ageing. Leaves 1-foliolate, 5-10 x 1-5 cm, ovate to elliptic, base rounded, apex acute, glabrescent above, densely appressed hairy below, often blotched with grey; petiole to 2.5 cm long; stipules to 8 mm long; linear-lanceolate. Flowers white, fascicled in terminal and axillary, 15-25 cm long racemes; pedicels 3-4 mm long; bracts subulate. Calyx campanulate; lobes 1.5-2 mm long, triangular, tomentose without. Corolla c. 4 mm across. Stamens diadelphous. Ovary 3-4 mm long, compressed, hairy without; stigma capitate. Pods 1.2-2.3 x 0.1-0.15 cm, moniliform, 4-7-jointed, reticulate, slightly pubescent with hooked hairs, constricted in ventral suture.
 
Curated Medicinal Use / Activity : A decoction of the leaves is used against stones in the gall bladder, kidneys or bladder. The leaves are applied as a poultice to the head as a treatment for headache. The roots are considered to be alterative, astringent, bitter tonic, diuretic, expectorant and febrifuge. A decoction of the root is employed to treat kidney problems, oedema, swellings, chronic fever, coughs, biliousness, Diarrhea and dysentery; or as a sedative for children. The roots are applied to the gums as a treatment for toothache. A decoction is used externally to clean wounds and ulcers. The whole plant is considered to be anthelmintic. anti-oxidant, cardio-protective, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-diabetic, nootropic, anti-leshmanial, immunomodulatory activity;
