| Description : | Erect, tufted, non-rhizomatous annual herbs; roots reddish, culms 20-48 cm tall, acutery triquetrous with concave sides. Leaves few, basal, 9-30 x 0.3-0.5 cm, linear-acute, flat; sheaths 2-6 cm long, brown. Inflorescence compound, 3-6 cm across, branches ending in congested globose clusters of spikelets; leafy bracts 2-3; the lowest upto 20 cm long. Spikelets 2-5 x c. 1 mm, linear, obtuse. Glumes c. 0.7 x 1 mm, orbicular, apex rounded or emarginate, margins broadly white-hyaline, keel yellowish. Stamens 1-2. Stigmas 3. Nut c. 0.5 mm long, elliptic, trigonous, apiculate, pale brown. | |||||||||||||
