| Description : | Subshrubs with white stinging hairs. Leaves alternate, 3-7-lobed, 8-15 x 10-17 cm, base cordate, lobes margin inciso-serrate, densely strigose, 3-ribbed from base; stipules to 1.5 x 1 cm, broadly oblong, auricled, acute; petiole to 10 cm long, reddish. Male flowers in axillary, cylindrical branched or unbranched spikes, white; tepals 4, c. 2 mm long, ovate, cucullate; stamens 4; pistillode globose. Female flowers in subterminal heads; tepals connate into a ventricose tube, 2-4-lobed; ovary flattened, ovate, style filiform. Achenes c. 3 mm across, compressed. | |||||||||||||
| Curated Medicinal Use / Activity : | the plant itself has medicinal value, and Nettle Tea has been used in Europe for many centuries. The leaves should not be touched with bare hands, but dried or boiled thoroughly in water , are used as diuretic, anti- rheumatic, anti-allergic and also for lactating mothers. The other parts of the plant are also useful for production of oils, biomass and fibre or paper. | |||||||||||||
