Description : Annual herbs, foetid, about 40-120 cm tall. Stem woody in the base, erect, branched, grandular or non grandular tomentose, striated, branches slender, usually branched from the base. Leaves variable, 3-5-7 foliate, leaflets subsessile, spathulate-obovate, narrow oblong to linear elliptic, about 1-6 x 0.4-2.5 cm across, base cuneate, margin ciliate, entire, apex acute to subacute, membranous, glandular pubescent both above and beneath, lateral veins 3-8 on either side of the midrib, petiole about 3-5 cm long. Inflorescence raceme corymbs, few flowered or solitary in the lower portion, lax and elongated in fruit, subterminal or axillary, up to 30 long in fruit. Flowers bisexual, zygomorphic, ephemeral, yellow, orange yellow or cream white, about 1-1.5 cm across, pedicel filiform, slender, about 10 mm long, elongated up to 4 cm long in fruit, sepals 4, lanceolate-oblong, valvate, reddish near the base, glabrous inside, glandular pubescent outside, apex acute, about 5-12 x 2-4 mm across, petals 4, oblanceolate-obovate, distinctly clawed at base, claw about 6 mm long, about 8-14 x 3-5 mm across. Stamens 12-18, filament inserted on a discoid, broadened at the tip, about 6-8 mm long, anthers linear. Ovary superior, bicarpellary, oblong-cylindric, sessile, beaked, minutely glandular pubescent, about 6-8 mm long, style up to 10 mm long, stigma capitate. Fruit capsule, erect or slightly curved, dehiscent, linear oblong, about 40-80 x 3-4 mm across, beaked about 4-20 mm long, tapered at base and apex, centripetally veined valves, with persistent seed bearing replum. Seeds many, orbicular or reniform, about 1-1.5 mm across, granulate, cleft fused between 2 ends, surface smooth, reddish brown to black.
